NutriChef PKTEWC122 Discontinued – Best Alternatives

The NutriChef PKTEWC122 twelve bottle cooler is no longer on sale, so here are three current twelve bottle coolers to buy instead, with the trade-offs of each.

The Amazon page for the NutriChef PKTEWC122 no longer offers it for sale, and NutriChef has not said why. My pick to replace it is the Ivation IV-FWCT121B 12 Bottle: the same twelve bottle, thermoelectric, single zone format, with a key lock and by far the largest owner record of the three. If you need to reach 41 F like the NutriChef could, the Schmecke 12 Bottle Compressor is the one that does.

Best Replacement Options

Ivation IV-FWCT121B 12 Bottle

Ivation IV-FWCT121B 12 Bottle – Best Overall Replacement

The Ivation matches the nutrichef pktewc122 on capacity, cooling type and zones: 12 standard bottles, thermoelectric, single zone. It adds a key lock and a settings lock on the touch controls, which the NutriChef did not have. It is weaker at the bottom of the range, rated 46-64 F against the 41 F floor our original review recorded for the NutriChef. Amazon shows 4.1 of 5 from 2,017 ratings, with 13% one-star, so read the Ivation IV-FWCT121B review before you buy.

Koolatron WC12 12 Bottle

Koolatron WC12 12 Bottle – Also Worth a Look

Another thermoelectric, single zone twelve bottle unit, rated 46-66 F, with five sliding beech wood shelves, a key lock and double-pane mirrored UV glass. It can stand on the floor or a counter. Like the Ivation it does not reach 41 F, and the listing does not publish a warranty. Amazon shows 4.2 of 5 from 301 ratings; our Koolatron WC12 review has the detail.

Schmecke 12 Bottle Compressor

Schmecke 12 Bottle Compressor – Best Compressor Alternative

The only one of the three that matches the NutriChef on range, rated 41-64 F, and it gets there with compressor cooling, so it is far less tied to the room temperature than any thermoelectric unit. It has touch controls, a key lock, removable wire racks and a 1 year limited warranty, and it is heavier at 37.5 lb. The listing dimensions look muddled, so confirm them before you plan a spot. Amazon shows 4.4 of 5 from 934 ratings. There is no review on this site yet; see the Schmecke brand page.

Why the PKTEWC122 Was Discontinued

The Amazon page for this model (B07J38VBQ2) no longer offers the product for sale. The manufacturer has not said why, and I will not invent a date or a reason. Below is what our original review recorded about the unit.

What It Did Well

  • A 41-64 F range, as recorded in our original review, which reaches lower than either thermoelectric replacement on this page.
  • Twelve bottles laid flat, three to a shelf across four polished chrome racks, so labels face you.
  • Light at 19.4 lb, with digital touch controls and an LED light.

Where It Fell Short

  • Thermoelectric cooling works relative to the room, so in a warm kitchen the low end of that range is hard to reach.
  • No lock.
  • Our original review gave only an estimated cabinet size, so the true dimensions are not on our record.

Market Context

Two of the three replacements above are thermoelectric. The change is that compressor units now exist at this size too, like the Schmecke, and NutriChef itself sells a compressor model at 14 bottles. For the difference between the two, see thermoelectric cooling and compressor cooling.

Buying Used – A Reality Check

Before You Buy a Used NutriChef PKTEWC122

  • On a thermoelectric cooler the usual failures are the cooling module, the fans and the door seal. Wine Cellar Diva has no parts source for this model; ask NutriChef before you rely on a repair.
  • A used unit is almost certainly out of warranty, and a worn fan does not show in photos.
  • Given that three current twelve bottle units are on sale new, a used one only makes sense if it is nearly free and you can see it running cold first.

For Current Owners

Keeping Yours Running

Leave space around the sides and back, keep it away from sun and cooking heat, and vacuum the vents every few months so the fans stay clear. Clean the door gasket and make sure the door closes evenly. When it will no longer get near its setting in a normal room, or the fan grinds, it is time to replace it.

Questions Readers Ask

Can I still buy the NutriChef PKTEWC122?

Not new from Amazon. The listing no longer offers it, and NutriChef has not given a reason. Used units may turn up; see the checklist above.

What replaced the NutriChef PKTEWC122?

NutriChef has not named a successor. The closest current match is the Ivation IV-FWCT121B 12 Bottle; if reaching 41 F matters, the Schmecke 12 Bottle Compressor. Current models are on the NutriChef brand page.

Are parts still available?

Wine Cellar Diva has no parts source for this model. Contact NutriChef with the model number; that is the most reliable way to find out.

Should I buy a used one?

Generally no. With no warranty and no known parts route, a new twelve bottle unit is the safer buy unless the used one is almost free.

Which twelve bottle wine cooler gets coldest?

Of the three here, the Schmecke, rated 41-64 F. The Ivation and Koolatron bottom out at 46 F by their listings. More options are in the 12-bottle guide.

What to Buy Instead

The closest current equivalent to the NutriChef PKTEWC122 is the Ivation IV-FWCT121B 12 Bottle, because it keeps the same capacity, cooling type and single zone and adds a lock. It does not go as low as the NutriChef, and its one-star share is worth reading about.

  • Best match: Ivation IV-FWCT121B 12 Bottle
  • Also worth a look: Koolatron WC12 12 Bottle
