Wine Cellar Types
Here I break down reviews based on the wine cellar types to make it easier for you to find what wine cooler you are interested in purchasing.
Single Zone Wine Coolers are wine coolers that do 1 thing perfectly well and that is chill, store & age your favorite wines be them reds or whites.
Dual Zone wine coolers are much more flexible in terms of not just wine storage but other items as well in zones that are separate from each other either by means of a divider or compartment. Since there is more than 1 compartment, temperatures can be set and maintained at much different levels to accommodate their contents.
Compressor cooling wine coolers are much like your current household refrigerator in function however, they are specifically made to have much different temperature and humidity ranges than a normal fridge. They use a much smaller version of a compressor to cool the wine fridge regardless of whether it has single or dual zones. Typically heavier than a thermoelectric wine cooler and maybe not as attractive to the co consumer, in the long run a compressor cooled wine cellar will have lower electric bills and last longer.
Thermoelectric wine coolers are the much greener version of a wine cooler due to their use of Peltier Effect Cooling units to keep the compartments cooler than room temperature. With initial costs being close between compressor cooled wine cellar and thermoelectric, they do appeal to the more Eco friendly consumer due to having no fluids or compressor. However, virtually all other materials are the same and while the initial savings of a thermoelectric wine cooler over a compressor type seem attractive, thermoelectric wine coolers are limited in their performance in hotter or more humid climates. Thermoelectric units may also cost more to run in those conditions, and perform at very sub par levels. People in milder climates though can certainly benefit from a thermoelectric wine cooler and enjoy the energy efficient benefits of peltier cooling.
