The large wine coolers we review run from 33-bottle under-counter units to a 277-bottle tower, in three heights: counter height (about 33 to 34 inches), mid-height towers (55 to 64 inches) and full-height towers (71.5 to 78.5 inches). The one we rate highest is the Allavino VSWR172-2SR20, a 172-bottle dual zone tower that can be built into a 24-inch opening. For a large single zone collection, the Allavino VSWR177-1SR20 holds 177 bottles. Check the installation type before you buy: several large models are freestanding only and cannot go inside cabinetry.
I have spent over ten years testing and reviewing wine coolers, wine cellar equipment, and wine-related gear, and tracking how it actually holds up over time. No unit on this page was bench-tested. These recommendations are built from manufacturer specifications, the Amazon listings’ own stated figures, owner reports and comparison against units in the same size class.

Large models are rated against others of a similar height and capacity. A model gains points for front venting with a built-in rating, published zone ranges, a longer compressor warranty and a strong owner record. It loses points for capacity counts that differ between sources, missing energy figures, freestanding-only installation at a size where most buyers want to build in, or a thin owner record.
A 172-bottle tower with an upper zone of 40 to 55 F and a lower zone of 55 to 65 F, fan-forced circulation and front venting for a 24-inch opening. The manual asks for at least 4 F between the zones. We rate it 4.5 out of 5. Read the review.

The YHWR305-1SL20, both YHWR99 models, the YHWR115-1SR20, both KWR models and the Schmecke 33 are freestanding. Boxed into cabinetry, they run hot. For an enclosed space, choose a model listed for built-in use with front venting.
Full-height towers stand 71.5 to 78.5 inches tall, and the YHWR305-1SL20 is 31.5 inches wide. Measure doorways, stairs and turns on the way in, not just the final spot.
Several large models list different counts in different places: the VSW5134S-1BR appears as both 56 and 51 bottles, and the YHWR115-1SR20 as 99 and 115. Counts assume slim standard bottles, so plan for fewer if you keep wider bottles.
Many large dual zone models limit how the zones relate. The VSWR172-2SR20 and VSW71LD-2BR need 4 F between zones, and the YHWR99-2SRN manual asks for 10 F. The dual zone guide lists the rule for each model.
Counter-height models, about 33 to 34 inches tall, slide under a kitchen counter when they are rated for it. Mid-height towers, 55 to 64 inches, suit a dining room or the end of a cabinet run. Full-height towers, 71.5 to 78.5 inches, match a tall pantry or refrigerator column. Most 24-inch Allavino towers we review are built for a 24-inch opening with front venting.
Listed yearly use on the large models we review runs from 170 kWh for the ICEVIVAL 24 Inch to 565 kWh for the YHWR305-1SL20, with Allavino’s Energy Guide label giving 556 kWh for the VSWR172-2. One Allavino listing shows 106 kWh for the 119-bottle VSW11955S-1BR, which we doubt. At an example rate of 15 cents per kWh, the range is about 26 to about 85 dollars a year. Keep the vents clear, front or rear depending on the model, and vacuum them a few times a year. Check that the door gasket seals all the way around, and leave the clearances the manufacturer lists.

Yes. The Allavino VSW6771S-1BR-WD and VSW6771D-2BL-WD are 16.8 inches deep (about 18.5 inches with the handle), the Schmecke 33 Bottle is 16.93 inches deep and the Allavino KWR33S-1SR is 17 inches deep.
Choose the height first, then whether it has to be built in. For a large collection in a 24-inch opening, buy the Allavino VSWR172-2SR20. Under a counter, the Kalamera 46-bottle and the Allavino VSWR56-2BR20 are the ones to buy.
This Ca’Lefort 24 inch 51 bottle wine fridge review is the right-hinged answer to the main complaint in my review of its left-hinged sibling, and it has the longest owner record of the Ca’Lefort wine fridges I have looked at.
The Allavino VSW11955S-1BR fits 119 bottles into a front-venting cabinet about 16 inches shorter than Allavino’s 71.5-inch towers, but it has one zone, no owner ratings yet, and its published specifications do not all agree.
The Allavino VSW5134S-1BR is a front-venting, under-counter height cooler with clear built-in specs and a listed energy figure inside our energy guide range, but it has one zone and no owner record yet, so you are buying on the specifications alone.
The Allavino VSW6771D-2BL-WD gives you two zones in a tall cabinet that is only 16.8 inches deep and rated for built-in use, but it holds just 67 bottles, its zone ranges differ by source, and its owner record is one written review.
The Allavino VSW6771S-1BR-WD is a shallow, front-venting tower that can be built in or stand alone, but you pay for that slim depth in capacity, and the owner record is too thin to judge it on.
The Allavino VSW71LD-2BR offers 172 bottles, two zones and built-in rated front venting behind a black metal door, but with no owner ratings yet and unclear door wording, it is a model to confirm with the seller before you buy.
