Avanti EWC1201 12 Bottle Thermoelectric Wine Cooler Discontinued – Best Alternatives
Amazon no longer carries the Avanti EWC1201, and the good news is that a near twin in size and cooling type is still on sale.
A search on Amazon by model number no longer returns any EWC1201 listing, and Avanti has not published a reason for its withdrawal. The closest current match is the Ivation IV-FWCT121B: twelve bottles, thermoelectric, single zone, in a cabinet whose recorded measurements are close to the Avanti’s.

Ivation IV-FWCT121B 12 Bottle – Best Overall Replacement
Put the two spec sheets side by side and the Ivation reads like a successor: 12 bottles, thermoelectric single zone, 10.4 W x 20.3 D x 25.6 H in, and a key lock plus a settings lock on the touch panel. Its 46-64 F range reaches lower than either figure our original review recorded for the Avanti. The weakness is in the owner record: 4.1 of 5 across 2,017 ratings is a large sample, but 13% of those are one-star. The warranty runs one year. Details are in our IV-FWCT121B review.

Koolatron KWT10BN 10 Bottle – Best Value Alternative
Giving up two bottle spaces buys you a shorter cabinet, 9.8 W x 20.1 D x 21.5 H in, and the strongest average rating in this group at 4.5 of 5 from 370 ratings. Cooling is thermoelectric, as on the Avanti, with a 46-66 F range. Two cautions: it is freestanding only and wants 5 in of space on all sides, and its warranty is six months. Our KWT10BN review has the full picture.

Koolatron WC20 Urban Series 20 Bottle – Step Up in Capacity
If twelve bottles always felt tight, the WC20 holds twenty using two thermoelectric modules in one zone. The shape changes a great deal: at 20.25 W x 15.75 D x 21.25 H in it is a much wider, lower shape than the Avanti, so measure the spot first. It keeps a key lock, uses five removable stainless racks of four bottles each, and rates 4.4 of 5 from 933 ratings. The listing puts energy use at 235 kWh per year. Read our WC20 Urban Series review.
Why the Avanti EWC1201 Was Discontinued
I cannot give you a manufacturer’s reason, because Avanti has not offered one. The record supports only this: the Avanti wine cooler EWC1201 is no longer listed on Amazon, and searching the model number returns nothing. The notes below on the original unit use the hard specs as recorded in our original review, and nothing else from it.
What It Did Well
- Twelve standard bottles in a cabinet recorded as 20.2 x 10 x 25.2 in and about 27 lb, easy to place on a counter.
- Removable chrome shelves with a mixed layout, recorded as eight bottles lying down and four standing, so an opened bottle could go back in upright.
- Digital display with a Fahrenheit or Celsius setting, interior LED light, a reversible door and a door lock.
Where It Fell Short
- Our original review recorded two different temperature ranges, 48-64 F in one section and 54-66 F in another, so the true lower limit is not clear from the record.
- One zone only, which means reds and whites share a single setting.
- Like any thermoelectric unit, it was meant for a room with steady temperatures, not a garage, porch or cabinet.
Market Context
Twelve-bottle thermoelectric coolers remain one of the most crowded corners of the market, and current models in this size tend to reach 46 F. Shoppers who need colder settings or a unit for a warmer room are better served by compressor models. Our guide to how thermoelectric wine coolers work explains the difference.

Buying Used – A Reality Check
Before You Buy a Used Avanti EWC1201
- The Peltier module, its fans and the door seal are what keep a unit like this cold. With the model off sale, replacements may be difficult to source, and Wine Cellar Diva has no parts source to offer.
- Any warranty will be long gone, and you have no easy way to know how many years the cooling module has already run.
- With a current twelve-bottle thermoelectric unit of almost the same size available new, a used EWC1201 is only worth it at a token cost and after you have watched it reach temperature.
For Current Owners
Keeping Yours Running
If your EWC1201 still cools, help it along: keep it out of cabinets and away from ovens or sunny windows, leave space around it for air, and wipe dust from the vents a few times a year. Avoid packing it so tightly that air cannot move between bottles. When the interior drifts well above the set point on an ordinary day and the fans sound normal, the module is wearing out, and a replacement will serve you better than a repair hunt.

Questions Readers Ask
Can I still buy the Avanti EWC1201?
Not on Amazon. A model-number search there no longer returns an EWC1201 listing.
What replaced the Avanti EWC1201?
Avanti has not named a direct successor that we can confirm. For the same capacity, cooling type and footprint, I point readers to the Ivation IV-FWCT121B 12 Bottle.
Are parts still available?
Wine Cellar Diva has no parts source for the EWC1201. Your best route is to contact Avanti with the model and serial number and ask what remains in stock.
Should I buy a used one?
Only if it is very cheap and you can see it working. There is no warranty, parts may be scarce, and a new twelve-bottle thermoelectric cooler does the same job.
Does the Avanti EWC1201 have humidity control?
Nothing in its recorded specs supports humidity control; it has a temperature setting only. Earlier copy on this page suggested otherwise, and that claim has been removed.
Can a 12-bottle thermoelectric cooler go inside a cabinet?
Generally not. Units like the EWC1201 and the Ivation are freestanding and need open air around them to shed heat. For a cabinet or counter cut-out, look at built-in compressor models instead.
What to Buy Instead
The closest current equivalent to the Avanti EWC1201 is the Ivation IV-FWCT121B 12 Bottle, because it keeps the same capacity and cooling type in almost the same cabinet. Its one-star share is worth reading about before you order.
