Dual Zone Wine Cellar Reviews
Wines are not just simple drinks that can be bought from a shop, unpacked at home, and then simply stored in a cabinet or cupboard. For avid collectors and enthusiasts, storing wine properly is of top priority. But with wine cellars and basements not always available, the best option is to get electric wine coolers. And for those who love both red and white wines, a dual zone wine cellar is the best choice.
IS A WINE FRIDGE DIFFERENT FROM A REFRIGERATOR?
So what exactly is a dual zone wine fridge, and how is it different from regular refrigerators? Wine coolers are specifically designed for wines and similar drinks. Which means that their temperatures can be calibrated for the wines’ benefit. And there can be two possible types of wine cooler: the single zone and the dual zone type. For certain food items you can use a wine fridge like a regular refrigerator.
WHAT IS A SINGLE ZONE WINE CELLAR?
Single zone coolers have one “zone” or area only which will have the same average temperature range while it is running. It is great for storing a single type of wine or group of wines whose ideal temperatures are close to each other. However, red wines and white wines have different ideal temperature ranges, and that is where a dual zone wine cooler comes in.
WHAT IS A DUAL ZONE WINE CELLAR?
A wine fridge dual zone unit means that there are two “zones” or areas within the interior that will each have their own specific temperature ranges. Because white wine, unlike red wine, is fermented without skins or seeds, there is very little tannins which are ideal for protecting wine from oxidation. The only way to store white wine without it oxidizing is to store it at lower temperatures. But because red wine doesn’t benefit from lower temperatures as much, and can in fact be at risk because of it, storing both red and white wines in a single zone cooler is risky.
HOW BIG IS A DUAL ZONE WINE CELLAR?
Dual zone wine fridges come in a variety of sizes and capacities too. They can be small and compact, like the Nutrichef PKDSWC 18 which can store 18 bottles, and high capacity like Kalamera KRC-150CB Wine & Beverage Cooler, which can hold 22 bottles and 60 cans of drinks.
